FINRA is involved in almost every aspect of the securities business. This includes everything from educating industry participants and the public to writing rules and enforcing those rules along with the federal securities laws. SIPC stands for Securities Investor Protection Corporation and is insurance for brokerage firms. SIPC account protection applies when a SIPC member firm fails financially and is unable to meet its obligations to securities clients, but it does not protect against losses from the rise and fall in the market value of investments.
